Establishing Your Password Using a PC |
|
The detailed way for first time users |
| If you already see the Start button |
|
on the bottom left corner, |
that means someone's
already on the machine. If you're sure they're not coming back, go ahead and
log them out.
"Why should I do that?" you may be asking yourself. See Step 5: Logging off.
Step 2:
Enter your user name. Your user name is the same as the first part of your
Bruin Online account. For example, if my email is joebruin@ucla.edu, I would
put joebruin as my log in name.
Step 3:
If this is your first time logging onto a PC at the CDA for the current quarter,
or you don't have a password yet, or it was reset by the administrator, leave
the password section blank, don't put anything.
If this isn't your first time and you have a password, go ahead and enter
it and click on OK.
Step 4:
You will be told to change your password. Keep the Old Password line
blank. Enter a new password and retype to confirm. After that you should be
ready to rock and roll. The password should be between 5-8 characters.
It should include numbers and letters, but cannot contain the '@' symbol.
If you get a "Windows NT Workstation" window asking you to change your
Windows NT password, click on Cancel. You'll just make more problems
for yourself. This is how you fix it.
Click on Cancel in the Windows NT Workstation window. Click on the
Advanced button on the main log in window. Then click on the Windows
NT tab. On the From: pulldown menu, select CDA1. Then go
ahead and click on OK.
You should be
happy-go-lucky logged on now.
Step 5:
Always log off when you're all done. All classes taught in the CDA have their
own folders. These folders can only be accessed by the students and staff
enrolled in those classes. Vice versa, students can only access their
class folders. You won't be able to "see" another class folder. If you come
across a machine that's
already logged on, chances are you won't be able to get to your class folder
that has your work on it. Got it?

the index for more fun!!!"
