Publishing to the Bruin Online Web Service via Netscape

This document describes how to publish to the web space available with each Bruin Online account. Although written for Netscape Communicator, it should be helpful for users of Netscape 3 or Internet Explorer. This assumes you already have a Bruin Online account. If not, go to the Bruin Online home page for information on how to get one.

Setup and uploading

In the publish dialog box in Netscape Communicator, fill in the "HTTP or FTP Location to publish to:" field with:

ftp://www.bol.ucla.edu/public_html

In the "User name" field input your BOLid and include your password in the "password" field. If the file is called spiffy.html (ie the "HTML Filename:" field in the publish dialog said "spiffy.html"), the URL for this on the web would then be:

http://www.bol.ucla.edu/~yourBOLid/spiffy.html

If you want to create directories within your web space, you will need to use a FTP client to create the directories before publishing to them with Netscape. Once you have created the directories (ex. directory "project2", file "index.html"), you can then publish to them by changing the "HTTP or FTP Location to publish to:" field" to:

ftp://www.bol.ucla.edu/public_html/project2

The URL for this would be:

http://www.bol.ucla.edu/~yourBOLid/project2/index.html
